Catch and Shoot is a boost to 3 point shots taken within 1 second of receiving a pass. This badge does not apply at limitless range or at mid-range, both of these limitations were introduced in the season 2 patch for 2k22.

Catch and Shoot is a boost for a short time after receiving a pass, the receiver's outside shooting attributes get a significant boost.

NBA 2k22 Do I Need Catch And Shoot?

Testing catch and shoot is a little more difficult than most of our scripts because we have to automate a 2v2 blacktop setting. To pull this off we use 4 controllers, 2 of which have rubber bands around the sticks that force them to constantly run out of bounds. Luckily, the ai is very predictable and immediately runs to the block when unguarded.

We then had the script throw a pass to the block and immediately throw a return pass to the shooter at the 3 point line who immediately shoots. We did this at 10 mS intervals throughout the green window of a shot and took 200 shot samples.

For this test we used a 75 3 point rating because the majority of players deciding whether they should run this badge have a lower 3 point rating.
